Who can imagine the moving limbs, a mind leaping and creating a work? A dish? A coat, painting, animation? Music?
This is a collection of recordings made improvising in front of live audiences, over a year of performing. Before creating them, the movements I would make were foreign to me. In moments of purest improvisation, the movements one makes become foreign, as new ones spontaneously arise, defying explanation--and sometimes conscious perception. And when listening to these recordings I know not what movements of my fingers, hands, arms, body occurred--I know for sure I could never reproduce these sounds. And so, this album is titled Foreign Movements. I hope you're as surprised and captivated listening to them as I was making them.
